Free Resources - Journal and Article Collections

While there are numerous resources available if you work in the NHS or are attached to a university, if you work in a community setting or for a hospice or other kinds of providers, it can be tricky to know what you might be able to access.

The databases and web pages in the list below offer free access to records and searching, although you may need to pay for full-text items or request through the library service if eligible. 

 

  • Cambridge University Press - journal articles on a range of topics
  • Core.ac.uk - open access reports and articles from a range of academic institutions
  • ERIC - focus on articles, reports, and other documents from the world of education, from elementary school to postgraduate
  • Google Scholar - articles, reports, patents, case law and other documents on all topics
  • Guidelines - Registration required - content free to registered UK healthcare professionals
  • IEEE Xplore - AI, electrical engineering, medical technology 
  • MDPI (Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institut) - collection of open-access, peer-reviewed journals
  • Oxford University Press - journal articles on a range of topics
  • Pubmed - incorporates the largest database of published medical articles in the world, MEDLINE
  • ResearchGate - it is sometimes possible to obtain full text articles via this collaborative site (registration required)
  • SAGE Journals - Find articles published in the health sciences, social sciences and humanities, life and biomedical sciences, and more
  • ScienceDirect - scientific articles from Elsevier Journals
  • Taylor and Francis Journals - over 4.6 million articles on a wide range of subject areas
