Introducing our new Primary & Integrated Care Knowledge & Evidence Service!

Earlier this year, Health Education England asked for expressions of interest from KLS to support GP Training Hubs around the country. Working in partnership with the GP Training Hub for Somerset, and our colleagues at Yeovil District Hospital NHS Foundation Trust library, we were delighted to hear that we’d been successful, and on 1 September 2021, I started in post as the Knowledge Specialist/Librarian. Since MoD primary care was where I pretty much started my NHS library career, I’m thrilled to be supporting this area again.

I’ve been made very welcome by the GP Training Hub training leads and everyone else in the organisation, and we have some really exciting things planned over the next few months. It’s a 2-year pilot to begin with, and it feels like we’re off to a flying start.

In the next few days I’ll be compiling a dedicated libguides area, with a focus on helping colleagues in the region who suddenly find themselves having to work at Level 7 on the HEE roadmap – it can all be a bit daunting if it’s a while since you had to complete any academic type reflection, or if that wasn’t a feature of training when you joined the profession.

We’re also looking at our book stock to make sure it reflects the needs of primary care – as a start, we’ll shortly be adding copies of the Reading Well titles to our collections, courtesy of our good friends in the public libraries.

If you work in the primary care field in Somerset, and would like to know more, please don’t hesitate to get in touch – and if we can’t help you directly, we’ll do our best to find someone who can!
